Gran Tarajal

The Gran Tarajal is the second most populated town in Fuerteventura , next to the capital Puerto Del Rosario.

Due to its geographic location and commercial port, the town is the central area for importing and exporting goods, particularly for the southern part of the island. The most popular local product for import and export are fish, cheese and agricultural produce.

This town was once a famous gateway for numerous visitors going to Fuerteventura . Historically, it was used by the missionaries, bishops and Barbary pirates who asked the locals help in disembarking.
Gran Tarajal has a black-sanded beach complemented by a very striking seafront promenade. Because of the old quay, the seas in Gran Tarajal are very calm. This quay was once used mainly for loading tomatoes, which were bound for other European areas. The calm beaches are ideal for various water sports. In fact, several world competitions of water sports are held in this town.

The Gran Tarajal streets follow the shape of the land. The key feature of the town is the volcano that rises up to make an amazing backdrop to Gran Tarajal town.

Gran Tarajal is considered an important non-tourist area because it is complete with major services such as post office, schools, shops, police station and council offices.

The town of Gran Tarajal is famous because it does not try to be anything special. For this reason, the town preserves a far more authentic Canarian ambiance than most of the other Fuertaventura towns.
