Tuineje Carnival
Just like majority of Spanish towns, the carnival festivities are celebrated annually. In Tuineje, it is held on March 3 to 13. The carnival consists of live music, reenactments of historical battles, bazzaares, contests and the traditional Burial of the Sardine.
The burial of the Sardine dates back to a hundreds years back. It takes place during the end of the Carnaval season. Although in most of Spain the sardine is buried, the towns in Fuerteventura, including Tuineje, sets the sardine on fire. This tradition happens after it has been paraded into the streets. This customary event concludes with an amazing display of fireworks.
The burial of the sardine has been painted by numerous artists such as Francisco de Goya.
