The Playa Del Matorral Lighthouse serves as a warning to ships as well as an indication of the division between the naturists and non-naturists sections of the beach.
The northern part of the beach has more naturists while the southern part is used frequently by non-naturists.
Playa de Sotavento
The Playa de Sotavento , known as the leeward beach, is home to the Reni Egli Center where kite boarders and windsurfers practice their skills. Located in the southern peninsula of Jandia , the Sotavento coast has the most extensive stretch of white-sanded beaches in the Canary Islands .
The turquoise water of this coast makes it an ideal area for scuba diving, swimming, deep-sea fishing and wind surfing.
Included in the Sotavento Coast are the beaches of Esquinzo, Sotavento, Butihondo, El Matorral and Mal Nombre while extending to the Calma Coast up to the Morro Jable .
