Pájara Carnival
Just like majority of Spanish towns, the carnival festivities are celebrated annually. In Pájara , it is held on February 10 to 27. The carnival consists of live music, reenactments of historical battles, bazzaares, contests and the traditional Burial of the Sardine.
The burial of the Sardine takes place during the end of the Carnaval season. Although in most of Spain the sardine is buried, the towns in Fuerteventura, including Tuineje, set the sardine on fire.
This tradition takes place after it has been paraded into the streets. The event is then brought to a close with a wonderful display of loud, colorful fireworks.
The burial of the sardine dates back hundreds of years. It has been painted by numerous artists such as Francisco de Goya.
